Day 0: It Starts

I had a long day at the office. Chris was late for work so decided to sack it off and try again in a couple of weeks. Regardless we both had a lengthy journey from Portsmouth to Plymouth. When Chris picked me up I was hugging the dog for maybe the fifth time telling her it would be ok and that I will return eventually.

On the way down there was a car at the side of the road billowing opaque smoke with some poor guy flapping around the bonnet. Chris told me to call the fire brigade and we both earned our good citizen badge. I presume we saved a life this day. If anyone here's anything about a grateful man around Honiton, let us know.

Radio 2 did not read our shout out to play Queens "I want to ride my bicycle". They did start a witches and wizards themed orchestral set which resulted in us arriving in an already gloomy Plymouth, with the added ominous uncertainty of the Sorceror Micky Mouse music from Fantasia. We got to the parking space and went from four wheels to two.

After loading up the bikes to the sound of drunken phone calls from a nearby balcony, we tentatively took off for Plymouth centre. A man, who turned out to be a fellow cycle tourer, gave us directions when he saw us looking at a map. He was rightfully jealous of our journey.

Arriving at the port, we had a nice burger and schooner of Heineken (380ml - we did not realise we hadn't ordered pints).

I realised I'd forgot a notebook and reluctantly broke into a ten euro note in the ferry shop. They did not have the most masculine designs. I wish I had paid the extra pound for the 4 colour Star Wars pen to offset the pink and flowery cover.

The real adventure starts tomorrow.
